New Order: Mexcian Michel Franco’s Controversial Film

Michel Franco wrote, directed, produced and edited New Order, a dystopian thriller, starring Naian Gonzalez Norvind, Diego Boneta and Mónica Del Carmen.

The film world premiered at the 2020 Venice Film Fest. where it won the Grand Jury Prize.

In 2021 the gap between social classes in Mexico is increasingly marked. A high-society wedding is interrupted by a group of armed and violent rioters (part of an even larger uprising of the underprivileged), who take the participants as hostages.

The Mexican army then uses the disorder caused by the riots as an excuse to establish a military dictatorship in the country.
