Wolfe Releasing has acquired U.S. rights to Jay Dockendorf’s urban gay teen drama “Naz and Maalik,” with plans for a release early next year.
Set in Brooklyn and inspired by true stories, “Naz and Maalik” is an intimate exploration of the daily lives of two closeted Muslim teens who have their secret lives rattled by FBI surveillance.
The release will cover theatrical, DVD, VOD and all digital platforms. The film premiered at SXSW and will be screened at San Francisco’s Frameline and L.A.’s Outfest.
Dockendorf directed from his own script. The film was produced by Jacob Albert and Margaret Katcher for Pecking Wilds Productions. The filmmakers were awarded the Tribeca Film Institute’s IWC Filmmaker Award last year.
