Island of Lost Souls (1932): Pre-Code Sci-Fi Horror, Starring Charles Laughton

Over the years, Island of Lost Souls, the pre-Code sci-fi horror starring Charles Laughton, has become a cult film.

The secondary cast includes Richard Arlen, Leila Hyams, Bela Lugosi, and Kathleen Burke as the Panther Woman.

Directed by Erle C. Kenton and produced by Paramount from a script co-written by Philip Wylie, it was the first non-silent adaptation of the H. G. Wells’ 1896 novel, “The Island of Dr. Moreau.”

The tale concerns an obsessed scientist (well played by Laughton), who is secretly conducting surgical experiments on animals on a remote island.
