Oscar 2014: Patricia Arquette–Frontrunner (Supporting Actress)

Patricia Arquette was doing press on Monday morning when she learned she had won the best supporting actress prize from the New York Film Critics Circle.

“I was like, ‘Ohmygod, wow,” Arquette said at a Peggy Siegal lunch for “Boyhood” in New York on Monday afternoon. “It’s so cool that they vote in a room all together.”

Arquette said she never anticipated to be garnering Oscar buzz when she signed up for the Richard Linklater drama 12 years ago. “Rick made radical decisions that broke convention and told a simple story with the subtle beauty of life,” she said. “We never expected any of this, but I’m happy to serve the movie.”

When asked if she liked giving speeches, Arquette said: “I like to give lectures to my children. I’ve never had experience giving speeches.” That’s about to change.
