Oscar Actors: Wahlberg, Mark–Boogie Nights and Beyond

Wahlberg stars in the film as the initially naive busboy Eddie, who adopts the persona of Dirk when he becomes a porn star sensation. After finding success in the career, Eddie gets caught up in his carefree lifestyle and starts using drugs.

Dirks increasing addiction has negative impacts on his performance, and he’s eventually fired for his egotistical attitude. Once unemployed, Eddie realizes he must stoop to new levels.

While Wahlberg was already a working musician and actor when Boogie Nights came out, he went on to star in big-budget actioners, including The Perfect Storm, Planet of the Apes and The Italian Job.

He earned his first Oscar nomination in 2007 for his supporting role in Scorsese’s The Departed.

The actor then found success in comedy by starring in the films like The Other Guys, Ted and Daddy’s Home; the latter two spawned sequels.

In addition to acting, Wahlberg is a successful producer of HBO’s Entourage, Boardwalk Empire, How to Make It in America, Ballers and McMillions.

Wahlberg earned his second Oscar nomination for producing The Fighter in 2011, which he also starred in.
