Jean-Luc Godard Filmography
March 4, 2025
Richly dense, in text and subtext, Godard’s films require close attention and repeat viewing as they reveal themselves through a dialectical process as we watch, challenge and question them.
Godard involved viewers more thoroughly and more politically in a film like Band Apart (“bande a Part”) than in any of his previous ideological and didactic work.
James Monaco has suggested that with Godard it’s the synthesis of experience, not analysis of it, that makes him a powerful artist.
