Terry Gilliam

100 Best Directors of All Time • Terry Gilliam
If Terry Gilliam had stopped directing after his stint in Monty Python, we might assume his genius was dependent on the group. But that was not the case.
Gilliam takes risks in his work that are equal parts insane and magical: Brazil, 12 Monkeys, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
He is a director blessed (or cursed) by an unhinged imagination, making movies about unhinged characters.
Gilliam’s dedication to getting The Man Who Killed Don Quixote finished is admirable in intent, even if the end result was disappointing, as, ultimately, the film is too conventional.
