Commercial Directors: Successful filmmakers who work in the mainstream and have largely made socially or artistically relevant movies that are critically acclaimed.
Commercial Directors: Successful but irrelevant filmmakers who work in the mainstream but make impersonal features that lack artistic or any other distinction but the box-office.
Out/In/Out Directors: Filmmakers who began their careers in the independent sector and have moved into mainstream (mass-oriented) narrative cinema. Some of those filmmakers have been navigating careers rather smoothly, going back and forth between indie and commercial cinema.
Indie Directors: Filmmakers whose careers have begun andhave larely remained in the indie sector, and/or directors who define themsleves–and are perceived–as independent
