Sean Baker directed and co-wrote (with Chris Bergoch) Red Rocket, a serio- comedy look at the porn industry.
The tale centers on Simon Rex, as Mikey Saber, a washed-up porn star who returns to his small Texas hometown, even though no one there really wants him back.
Bree Elrod and Suzanna Son also star in the film.
Principal photography began on October 26, 2020 and concluded on November 19, 2020, in Texas, during the COVID-19 pandemic, with rigorous safety protocols.
In February 2021, A24 acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film, which will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in competition in July 2021.
