Producers Guild Nominations for Best Picture Postponed Amid L.A. Fires
The delay comes as the Writers Guild of America and Oscars also delay voting and the announcement of their nominees.
The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has postponed the announcement of its 2025 Awards nominees in film and TV categories amid the fires raging through Los Angeles.
The PGA Awards nominations will now be announced Sunday, January 12.
The voting window for casting a ballot has been extended until Saturday, Jan. 11.
The Producers Guild has already announced nominations in documentary, sports, children’s and short-form content categories.
The American Society of Cinematographers moved its awards nomination announcement, originally set for Thursday, to Monday, January 13.
The 2025 Oscars nominations announcement postponed until Sunday, January 19.
And the Writers Guild of America delayed the announcement of its nominations until Monday, Jan. 13.
Other events, including awards shows and screenings for Oscar hopeful films, have been postponed.
Notably, the 2025 Critics Choice Awards has been delayed until Sunday, Jan. 26 from its initial date of Sunday, January 12.
Saturday’s AARP Movies for Grownups Awards has been postponed along with Friday’s AFI Awards celebration luncheon.
Donna Langley’s Universal toast at Sunset Tower on Friday and Saturday’s BAFTA Tea Party in Beverly Hills are no longer happening.
The L.A. fires, which began Tuesday in the Pacific Palisades, have left at least five people dead and destroyed communities ranging from the Pacific Coast to Pasadena.
The Pacific Palisades fire is the most destructive in L.A. history, with more than 1,000 structures destroyed, with an additional 1,000 structures destroyed in the Eaton fire in Pasadena. The five deaths recorded so far were from the Eaton fire.
Wednesday night, a new fire brought the flames closer to the heart of Los Angeles and densely populated neighborhoods. The Sunset fire in the Hollywood Hills also posed a threat to nearby iconic locations such as the Hollywood Bowl, Walk of Fame and TCL Chinese Theatre.
But firefighters were able to get the Sunset fire under control after it burned through 43 acres.
The Los Angeles Fire Department lifting all evacuation orders for the area early Thursday morning.
The fires have consumed roughly 45 square miles, about the size of the city of San Francisco. More than 100,000 people are under evacuation orders.
