Frontrunners

Two of the six contenders in my Frontrunners category, have already won Oscars: Natalie Portman, Black Swan (2010) and Emma Stona, La La Land (2016).
Carey Mulligan has been nominated twice for lead acting Oscars, An Education (2009) and Promising Young Woman (2020).
Margot Robbie has been nominated as Best Actress for I, Tonya (2017) ad for Best Supporting Actress for Bombshell (2019)
The two new faces in this category belong to Cailee Spaeny, for Coppola’s biopic of Elvis ex-wife, Priscilla, and Lily Gladstone.

Lily Gladstone’s role as Mollie Burkhart, an Indigenous woman in Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon, will be vying for the Best Actress Oscar, instead of Supporting league. If recognized, Gladstone would be the first Native American actor nominated in lead category.

Several indigenous players had been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar.

Strong Contenders

Annette Bening and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor have been nominated before; the firmer, multiple times, in both acting categories.

Sandra Hüller, the acclaimed German actor made her breakout in Hans-Christian Schmid’s “Requiem” (2006), winning the Silver Bear for best actress.  Her big breakthrough role was in Maren Ade’s dramedy Toni Erdmann (2016), which represented Austria for best international feature Oscar, but did not win. If nominated for the French Anatomy of Hell and/or Zone of Interest, Hüller would break several records.
