Powell and Pressburger

Best Directors • Powell and Pressburger
Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger represent the best director teams in cinema’s history, outshining the longer, but weaker teaming of Merchant Ivory (who also partners in life until Merchant’s death).
While Powell was directing before and after his partnership with Pressburger, they worked best as a team.
Working in England, they were fiercely independent and created The Archers, their own production company.
Highlights from their indelible career including The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, A Canterbury Tale, Black Narcissus and The Red Shoes.
As many British filmmakers–Tony Richrdson, John Schlesinger– ended up emigrating to Hollywood, Powell and Pressburger were determined to stay in their him country and help establish the entire British film industry.
