Demi Moore reacted to news of her Oscar nod for Best Actress for her role in The Substance in a statement: “Being nominated for an Oscar is an incredible honor and these last few months have been beyond my wildest dreams.”
My Oscar Book:
Moore plays fading fitness celebrity Elizabeth Sparkle in “The Substance.” A campy dissection of Hollywood’s toxic obsession with youth, the body horror film earned five Oscar nominations.
Moore turned her attention to Los Angeles, which has been devastated by multiple wildfires throughout the region this month. Not only does the city serve as the backdrop for “The Substance,” but it is also Moore’s home.
“This is time of incredible contrasts and right now, my heart is with my friends, family, neighbors and community here in LA,” she said.
“The fires have devastated so many lives but to see the way our community has united leaves me in awe of the resilience and compassion that defines us, and this moment is a reminder of how incredible we are when we stand together,” the actor concluded.
Moore hit back at critics who once dismissed her as mere box-office attraction: “In those moments, when we don’t think we’re smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, ‘Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.’”
