Oscar Directors: Boyle, Danny, Auteur?

Danny Boyle is an eccentric director, jumping from genre to genre, and from one locale to another.

He has developed a distinctive approach (and style) that is flamboyant, excessive, and energetic.  There is always some verve in his work, sometimes carried to folly and extreme, which is not necessary or call for by the narrative.

He has chosen exotic locales for his tales: Scotland in his early films, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting; Thailand for The Beach; outer space for Sunshine.
