Deaths of Rob Reiner and Wife: ‘No One Has Been Detained’

Director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead at their Brentwood home on Sunday in apparent homicide.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” a family spokesman said. “We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
The LAPD responded to the home at 3:40 p.m. and discovered two deceased victims.
The LAPD described the deaths as “an apparent homicide,” but did not confirm the victims’ identities. ABC7 reported that the victims appeared to have been stabbed.
“We have not identified a suspect at this time,” said Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton at a press conference Sunday night. “No one has been detained.”
Hamilton also said the detectives had canvassed the neighborhood, but “are not looking for anyone” in Brentwood.
Detectives from the LAPD Robbery Homicide Division responded to the home to conduct the investigation. Hamilton said the detectives would have to obtain a search warrant before going inside.
Karen Bass, the mayor of Los Angeles, mourned Reiner’s death in a statement, calling it “a devastating loss for our city and our country.”
“The investigation is ongoing,” she said. “I’m holding all who loved Rob and Michele in my heart.”
Hamilton said police expected to update the press again on Monday morning.
