Set in a carnival, George Fitzmaurice's romantic drama stars Douglas Fairbanks and Betty Compson, who was nominated for Best Actress.

 

With a long experience to her credit, Compson (and the industry) regarded her part as a comeback performance, and the nomination helped to revive her career for a brief time in such films as “The Docks of New York” with George Bancroft, and “Weary River” with Richard Bathelmes.

 

Betty Compson was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar, but the winner was Mary Pickford for “Coquette.”

The Original Screenplay Oscar went to Colin Welland for the British film “Chariots of Fire,” which also won Best Picture.
