In 1967, Jiri Menzel's Czech film “Closely Watched Trains” won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar over “El Amor Brujo” from Spain, “I Even Met Happy Gypsies” from Yugoslavia, “Live for Life from France,” and “Portrait of Chieko” from Japan.
