The Hurt Locker won three major awards from the National Society of Film Critics (of which I am a member): Best Picture, Best Director for Kathryn Bigelow, and Best Actor for Jeremy Renner.

Starring Giulietta Masina in one of greatest performances, Fellini's masterpiece relates in a realistic yet serio-comic way the adventures of a Roman prostitute, who manages to remain upbeat and even optimistic despite an endless series of disasters and mishaps.

 

Cinema 2000-2009: Best Picutre–Runners-Up of the Decade

Too many good films to choose from.  Here is my list of ten runners-up, arranged in alphabetical order.  It represents half a dozen national cinemas, including Romania, a country that continues to produce some of the best films around.
