Lebanon: Interview with Director Samuel Maoz

On June 6, 1982, at 6:15 AM, I killed a man for the first time in my life. I was 20 years old. I did not do so by choice, nor was I ordered to do so. I reacted in self-defense, with no emotional or intellectual motivation, only the basic survival instinct that takes no human factors into account, an instinct which forces itself on a person facing a tangible threat of death–Writer Director Samuel Maoz

Iron Man 2: Interview with star Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark in "Iron Man 2," which also stars Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mickey Rourke. The Marvel film, which is directed by Jon Favreau, is being released May 7 by Paramount.

"In the first film Tony was in this kind of nether-world, somebody who needed to be put in check," says Downey. By the time ‘Iron Man 2’ starts you’re essentially seeing Tony’s persona, and he’s showing that persona to everything and everyone around him because he doesn’t want them to know that anything has changed.  But a lot has changed, and he’s really in quite a desperate way."

Iron Man 2: Interview with Director Jon Favreau

Jon Favreau is the director of "Iron Man 2," starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Mickey Rourke. The Marvel sequel is being released May 7 by Paramount.

“When you have multiple characters in a film, it tends to get complicated, and I think many sequels fall short because they create too many layers of complication, both in character and in plot,” says Jon Favreau.  “Plot is something I’m not particularly great at because I don’t have a mindset for twisty, turny, maze-like stories.  I’m more of a story guy, which I used to think was synonymous with plot, but it’s really a different element of movie-making.”

Please Give: Interview with Writer/Director Nicole Holofcener

Nicole Holofcener is the writer/director of "Please Give," which stars Catherine Keener, Amanda Peet, Rebecca Hall, and Oliver Platt. The film is released on April 30 by Sony Classics.  Holofcener is known for films such as Lovely & Amazing (2001) and Friends with Money(2006).

I guess it’s more interesting to me if a person comes out of the movie feeling all the things that the movie has stirred up in them. Not to think: “Hey, y’know, I’m a bad person!” Or “Hey, that’s just like me” – it should be a more emotionally felt experience. If I had to sum it up into a sentence I probably couldn’t. Which is a good thing.”

Robin Hood: Interview with Director Ridley Scott

Ridley Scott is the director of "Robin Hood," starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, which opens the Cannes Film Fest, May 12, and will be released by Universal May 14.

Scott reflects: “Everyone talks about Robin Hood robbing from the rich and giving to the poor, but we felt it was relevant to choose a point in medieval folklore when the environment is on the edge of starvation and neglected by the crown.  The hierarchy is the enemy, and the everyman who will come against them is Robin Hood.  Within that idea, we have not forgotten the expectation and the romanticism of the legend.  Is there humor in this?  Yes.  Is there a lot of action?  Yes.”
