Toy Story 3: Interview with Director Lee Unkrich

Lee Unkrich directs "Toy Story 3," starring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen. The Disney-Pixar film is being released on June 18, 2010. 

Unkrich says they’ve continued the Pixar tradition of blending fun with a relatable story. “‘Toy Story 3’ is about change,” says Unkrich. “It’s about embracing transitions in life. It’s about characters being faced with major changes and how they deal with them. Woody and the other toys are facing the monumental fact that Andy has outgrown them Andy is facing becoming an adult and heading off to college. And Andy’s mom is facing the fact that her son has grown up and is heading out into the world. We begin our story at pivotal moments in the characters’ lives.” 

 

Orlando: Interview with writer/director Sally Potter

Sally Potter is the writer/director of the 1992 film "Orlando" starring Tilda Swinton. The film, which was nominated for an Oscar, is being re-released by Sony  Classics on June 23 in NY and LA.

"My task with the adaptation of Virginia Woolf's book for the screen was to find a way of remaining true to the spirit of the book and to Virginia Woolf's intentions, whilst being ruthless with changing the book in any way necessary to make it work cinematically."

 

 

 

Winter’s Bone: Interview with director Debra Granik

 I read Winter's Bone in one sitting. I had not done that with any book in a long time. I wanted to see how this girl, Ree, was going to survive. It felt like an old fashioned type of tale, with a character I couldn't help but root for, and with an atmosphere my mind was actively trying to conjure. It also felt fresh in that I do not often get a chance to imagine life like Ree's, whose circumstances lie outside the confines of my own.

Neil Jordan is the writer-director of "Ondine," starring Colin Farrell, which is released June 4 by Magnolia.

For Jordan, Ondine is a personal project and a break from big budget studio productions.“Sometimes circumstances force you to strip down your aesthetic to the bones and reinvent yourself,” he says. “Sometimes large is great, sometimes small is even better. I think that the worst thing you can do is repeat yourself.”

 

 

 

Killers: Interview with director Robert Luketic

Robert Luketic is the director of "Killers," starring Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, which is being released June 4 by Lionsgate.

The director of LEGALLY BLONDE, 21 and THE UGLY TRUTH, Luketic had long been in search of a project like KILLERS. “I’d always wanted to make a film that blended romance and comedy and suspense,” says Luketic. “They’re hard genres to blend together and get totally right.  And this script hit my desk and I fell in love with the concept instantly. It had elements of romance. It was funny. It had adventure.  It had it all.”
