The New York Film Critics Circle has named David O. Russell’s “American Hustle” Best Picture of 2013.

Joshua Oppenheimer’s “The Act of Killing” has been voted best film of the year by Sight & Sound, the U.K. magazine for cinephiles.

The Golden Globe season has officially begun with the crowning of aspiring actress Sosie Bacon, the daughter of Globe winners Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick, as Miss Golden Globe 2014.

Like other Oscar categories, screenwriting (both original and adapted) includes both vets and tyros. In recent years, first time winners included Chris Terrio (“Argo”), Michael Arndt (“Little Miss Sunshine”), Diablo Cody (“Juno”), Dustin Lance Black (“Milk”), Mark Boal (“The Hurt Locker”) and Geoffrey Fletcher (“Precious”).
