Where is Anne Frank? Ari (Waltz with Bashir) Folman’s Animated Feature Premieres at 2021 Cannes Film Fest (Previews)

Folman, the son of Holocaust survivors, said: Bringing the Anne Frank diary to the screens is a fantastic opportunity and challenge. There is a real need for new artistic material to keep the memory alive for younger generations.”

Folman’s previous film, The Congress, in 2013, was a mix of live action and animation with Robin Wright.

Waltz with Bashir, which premiered at Cannes, was nominated for an Oscar, won a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film in 2009, and Best Picture from the National Society of Film Critics (NSFC).  An animated documentary about the experiences of Israeli soldiers in the first Lebanon War, it was widely praised for is originality and bold conception.

Anne Frank’s diary was done in animated format in n 1995, when Japanese director Akinori Nagaoka adapted the story to the screen.

There are many versions of the story, including George Stevens’s 1959 Oscar winner The Diary of Anne Frank, and Jon Blair’s 1995 Anne Frank Remembered, which won the Best Documentary Feature Oscar.
