Watchmen, The (2009): Directed by Zach Snyder–Great Movie Beginnings

The Comedian DiesĀ  Movie Openings

Starting The Watchmen with a TV sequence about Nixon and the Cold War is a risky, over the top opening, but what comes after is incredible.

Zach Snyder’s color palette shows how grounded superhero movies can feel.
The contrast of Nat King Cole singing smoothly while doors smash, glass shatters, and bones is shockingly brutal.

This fighting is well-choreographed and the bloody smiley-face is the suitable image to end the scene.

After this picture, DC chose Snyder to follow Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy) for Man Of Steel and Batman v Superman.
