It will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in July 2021.
In August 2017, Todd Haynes was hired to direct and produce a documentary film about The Velvet Underground.[3] Haynes received co-operation of the surviving members of the band including John Cale.
Interviews for the film were shot in 2018.
In October 2020, Apple TV+ acquired distribution rights to the film.
