Todd Haynes directed The Velvet Underground, a documentary that follows the band The Velvet Underground.

It will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in July 2021.

In August 2017, Todd Haynes was hired to direct and produce a documentary film about The Velvet Underground.[3] Haynes received co-operation of the surviving members of the band including John Cale.

Interviews for the film were shot in 2018.

In October 2020, Apple TV+ acquired distribution rights to the film.
