Indie director Boaz Yakin helmed Uptown Girls, a dramedy starring Brittany Murphy, Dakota Fanning, Heather Locklear, Marley Shelton, Donald Faison, and Jesse Spencer.
The plot focuses on Molly Gunn (Murphy), the naïve daughter of a famous rock musician who, after learning her inheritance has been embezzled, finds herself employed as a nanny for a precocious hypochondriac girl named Ray (Fanning) in Manhattan.
The film was adapted by screenwriters Julia Dahl, Mo Ogrodnik and Lisa Davidowitz from a story by Allison Jacobs.
Initially panned, and a commercial flop, the film later gained a more positive reception.
Location: Central Park’s Bow Bridge
Location:
Mid-park at 74th St., West of Bethesda Terrace
In the middle of Central Park, Bow Bridge, with its Victorian-era design, offers views of the lake and rowboats, as well as the surrounding skyline, including the San Remo, apartment building with twin towers.
In pivotal scene from Uptown Girls (2003), Molly (Brittany Murphy), overwhelmed by her trauma, jumps off the bridge into the lake below. While Murphy didn’t perform the stunt herself, she filmed the scene at the real location.
