TV Critics Awards 2024: “Baby Reindeer,” “Ripley,” “Shogun”–Top Nominees

‘Baby Reindeer,’ ‘Ripley,’ ‘Shogun’ Top TV Critics Awards Nominees

FX and Netflix lead the pack with 16 apiece, followed by HBO/Max with 13.

The nominations for the 40th annual Television Critics Awards Nominations have been revealed, with Netflix and FX tied at the top thanks to the strength of Baby Reindeer, Ripley and Shogun, with all three programs garnering five noms apiece.

The TCA Awards nominations are voted on by a group of more than 230 television journalists from the U.S. and Canada. Winners will be announced at an in-person ceremony that’s part of the summer press tour on Friday, July 12 at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena.

Netflix and FX nearly swept the coveted program of the year category, which features Baby Reindeer, The Bear, Reservation Dogs, Ripley, Shogun and Max’s Hacks. The outstanding new program category, which often serves as an Emmys precursor, includes Baby Reindeer, Fallout, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Ripley, Shogun and X-Men ’97.

The achievement in comedy category features the past 2 winners, Abbott Elementary and The Bear, joined by Girls5eva, Hacks, Reservation Dogs and We Are Lady Parts.

Baby Reindeer, Fallout, Fargo, Ripley, Shogun and True Detective: Night Country round out the nominees for achievement in drama.

Baby Reindeer is joined by The Fall of the House of Usher, Fargo, Fellow Travelers, Ripley and The Sympathizer in the movies/miniseries/specials category.

In the acting categories, which are not split by gender, drama nominees include True Detective’s Jodie Foster, Baby Reindeer’s Richard Gadd, Shogun’s Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, Ripley’s Andrew Scott and Fargo’s Juno Temple.

The comedy category features 2 former winners with Abbott Elementary’s Quinta Brunson and Hacks star Jean Smart joined by The Bear’s Ayo Edebiri and Jeremy Allen White, Girls5eva’s Renee Elise Goldsberry and Reservation Dogs breakout Devery Jacobs.

Ripley

The Ripley showing is compelling as Paramount-backed Showtime spent years developing the drama only to sell it off to Netflix. The same is true for Girls5eva, which was a critical breakout when it initially aired as a Peacock original but with limited viewership on that platform, producers Universal Television sold the show to Netflix with the hopes that the musical comedy could attract more eyeballs.

“This was a terrific television season in every genre, and our nominations reflect those riches,” TCA president Jacqueline Cutler said. “We’re thrilled to celebrate our 40th Awards and even more delighted to do so in person.”
