Sony Pictures Classics will release the Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford drama TRUTH on October 16, 2015 in New York and Los Angeles, with a nationwide expansion to follow.
The “Rathergate” centered film is James Vanderbuilt’s directorial debut and also stars Topher Grace, Elisabeth Moss, and Dennis Quaid.
Based on the book “Truth and Duty” by Mary Mapes, “Truth” is in the vein of “All The President’s Men” and “The Insider.”
It tells the true story of Mary Mapes (played by Cate Blanchet), an award-winning CBS News Journalist and Dan Rather’s producer, who broke the Abu-Ghraib prison abuse story, among others.
The film chronicles the story Mapes and Rather uncovered that a sitting U.S. president may have been AWOL from the United States National Guard for over a year during the Vietnam War.
When the story blew up in their face, the ensuing scandal ruined Dan Rather’s career, nearly changed a U.S. Presidential election, and almost took down all of CBS News in the process.
Truth is written and directed by James Vanderbilt, whose writing and producing credits include “Zodiac,”“White House Down,” and “The Amazing Spiderman” among others.
Oscar winning actors Cate Blanchett and Robert Redford star. Producers are Bradley Fischer (“Shutter Island”, “Black Swan”) and William Sherak from Mythology Entertainment, Doug Mankoff and Andy Spaulding from Echo Lake Entertainment, and Brett Ratner of RatPac Entertainment.
