Top Gun: Maverick–Mike Teller as Tom Cruise’s Protege

Mike Teller (Whiplash) will play the son of Goose and Maverick’s new protege in Paramount and Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the 1986 Cruise classic, which will bow July 12, 2019.

Last week, Cruise tested with Teller, Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult for the role.

Joe Kosinski (Oblivion) is directing the film.

Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the 1986 original, will produce with Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison.

The tale is set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters along with exploring the end of the era of dogfighting.

In the original picture, Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, was the co-pilot to Cruise’s Maverick.
