Black Phone, The: Horror Thriller, Starring Hawke, January 2022 in Theaters

Scott Derrickson is directing the horror thriller The Black Phone, starring Ethan Hawke for Blumhouse and Universal.  It will be in theaters on January 28, 2022.
Blumhouse and Universal announced the release date on Tuesday.It co-stars newcomer Mason Thames in his first film role as Finney Shaw, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer (Hawke) and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use.

Derrickson (SinisterDoctor Strange) directed from a screenplay he wrote with longtime collaborator C. Robert Cargill. The movie is based on the award-winning short story by Joe Hill.

The Black Phone also stars Jeremy Davis and Madeleine McGraw.

Derrickson, Cargill and Blumhouse’s Jason Blum are producing the picture. Joe Hill is an executive producer.

The project unites Hawke with the filmmakers and producer of Blumhouse’s 2012 horror smash Sinister.
