The supporting cast includes Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, and Stephen Graham.

World premiering as the opening film at the BFI London Film Fest on 9 October 9, 2024, Blitz was released in selected theaters in the UK and US on November 1, followed by streaming release on Apple TV+ on November 22, 2024.

George (Heffernan), a boy of 9, is evacuated to the English countryside after London comes under attack. However, George doesn’t want to leave and heads back home.

As a result, George finds himself in constant danger — escaping floods, narrowly escaping a blitz bombing of a bridge and encountering villains who exploit him.

But it’s a quiet moment that stands out when he encounters Black solider Ife (Benjamin Clementine), who shows him kindness. Up to this point, George has denied his heritage. But as Ife says good night, George says to the soldier, “I am Black.”

It’s a simple but touching moment that speaks volumes about identity and politics, and the politics of identity.
