Giamatti, Domingo, Emily Blunt Among First-Time Oscar Nominees in Acting Categories

Other first-time nominees for the 96th Academy Awards include America Ferrera, Lily Gladstone, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Jeffrey Wright.

Out of the 20 candidates, there were 10 (half) first-time nominees, including Cillian Murphy, America Ferrera, Colman Domingo, Emily Blunt and Lily Gladstone.

Murphy scored a nod for best leading actor for his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, and Blunt received a nom for best supporting actress for her role of Kitty Oppenheimer in Oppenheimer. The Christopher Nolan-directed film received 11 other nominations.

Ferrera is nominated for best supporting actress for her role of Gloria in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie. The film also received seven additional nominations. “All of the women in the incredible category that I get to be a part of: Da’Vine [Joy Randolph] and Danielle [Brooks] and Emily [Blunt] and Jodie [Foster], [their] work is just so beautiful,” she said on Tuesday. “It’s truly unbelievable to me that I get to be a part of the conversation with all of this amazing work being done all around.”

Domingo scored his first Oscar nom for best leading actor for his portrayal of Bayard Rustin in Rustin, directed by George C. Wolfe. He said after he learned of his nomination, “I was stunned, almost like it didn’t happen.”

As for Da’Vine Joy Randolph, she earned a best supporting actress nod for her role of Mary Lamb in The Holdovers, which also received four other nominations. “It’s so exciting,” she said of her nom. “So many beautiful artists being nominated this year: Colman, The Holdovers family, Danielle Brooks, Emily Blunt.”

Jeffrey Wright and Sterling K. Brown both scored first-time Oscar nominations for American Fiction. Wright is nominated for best leading actor for his role of Thelonious ‘Monk’ Ellison, and Brown is nominated for best supporting actor for Clifford Ellison. The Cord Jefferson-directed film received three additional nods.

Sandra Hüller is nominated for best leading actress for her role of Sandra Voyter in Anatomy of a Fall. The Justine Triet-directed movie received four other nods.

The 96th Academy Awardshosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live at 4 p.m. PT/7 p.m. ET on ABC on Sunday, March 10, from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
