Ava DuVernay-directed biographical drama officially opens in cinemas January 19.

It is based upon Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson.

The film stars Aunjanue Ellis as Wilkerson, alongside Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, Audra McDonald, Niecy Nash-Betts, Nick Offerman and Blair Underwood.

Origin competed for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice Film Fest, where it premiered on September 6, 2023.

Neon’s limited theatrical release was on December 8, 2023, and  will expand to wide release on January 19, 2024.
