Alongside DiCaprio, the cast includes Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Benicio del Toro, Wood Harris, Shayna McHayle and Chase Infiniti.
Plot details and the film’s exact title remained unknown until the first teaser dropped, with “One Battle After Another” inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s classic 1990 novel “Vineland.”
The trailer reveals that DiCaprio plays Bob Ferguson, a wacky, disheveled revolutionary who’s trying to save his daughter. It begins with Bob, in a beanie and bathrobe, using a payphone to request help from some unknown rebel allies but forgetting which codewords to use.
Del Toro plays Bob’s sensei and teaches him how to live without fear — and pushes him out of a speeding car.
The trailer ends with DiCaprio screaming out “Viva la revolución as he and del Toro prepare to wage against their enemies.
Anderson wrote the script and produced with Sara Murphy.
“One Battle After Another” was rumored to cost upwards of $130 million, which would make it Anderson’s most expensive movie of his career.
This marks DiCaprio’s first starring role since 2023’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Martin Scorsese’s historical drama that was nominated for 10 Oscars. While Anderson has yet to win an Academy Award, he has been nominated 11 times over the years, with “Licorice Pizza” receiving nods for best picture, best director and best original screenplay. He received his first Oscar nomination back in 1998 for his “Boogie Nights” screenplay.
“One Battle After Another” is produced by Warner and releases in theaters Sept. 26 with Imax screenings.
