The film is a loose remake of Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, a superior Cary Grant comedy, co-starring Myrna Loy, made in 1948.

Attorney Walter Fielding and musician girlfriend Anna Crowley learn of Walter Sr.’s wedding to Florinda after fleeing the country for embezzling millions from their musician clients. The next morning, they need to vacate their sublet from Anna’s ex-husband Max Beissart, a self-absorbed conductor who’s back from Europe.
