Miguel’s War (2021): Eliane Raheb’s Portrait of a Gay Man, Escaping Lebanon and Living in Spain

Miguel’s War, an interesting international documentary, produced and directed by Eliane Raheb, revolves around gay men whose tumultuous lives in their restrictve home countries are seldom seen in Western pictures.

In this portrait of Michel Jleilaty, a gay man from Lebanon now living in Spain as an adult under the assumed name Miguel Alonso revisits the childhood traumas that made him want to escape his homeland.

World premiering in the Panorama program at the 71st Berlin Film Fest, it won the Teddy Award for best LGBTQ-themed feature film, and took second place for the Panorama Audience Award.
