Based on an operetta by Franz Lehar, this remake of the 1934 originals stars Lana Turner as Sonia, the wealthy widow, who returns to her husband’s native land to dedicate a memorial to him.
The king (Thomas Gomez) of the country tries to convince her to stay by offering a young Prince Danilo (Fernando Lamas) for her to marry.
The lead actors are dubbed, but the production is nice to look at due to Technicolor cinematography of Robert Surtees and art direction and costume design.

The winner of the Art Direction and Costume Design Oscars was John Huston’s Moulin Rougle.
