The well-directed movie world-premiered to great acclaim at the 2015 Cannes Film Fest (in competition).
Macbeth, the new screen version of Shakespeare’s famous play, starring Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender and Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose), will stream exclusively on Amazon soon after its December theatrical release.
The Weinstein Co. has not set the exact release date on Amazon for “Macbeth.” TWC bought North American rights in 2013 from StudioCanal.
Fassbender stars as the power-hungry Scot with Cotillard playing Lady Macbeth. Justin Kurzel directed from a script by Jacob Koskoff and Todd Louiso.
StudioCanal financed and produced the film. Film4 helped develop the project, with See-Saw Films’ Iain Canning and Emile Sherman (“The King’s Speech”) also producing.
TWC will release “Macbeth” through its Radius arm, which also handled documentaries “Citizenfour” and “Twenty Feet From Stardom.”
