William Alland directed Look in Any Window, a drama about a troubled family, raising a rebellious outsider son, starring Paul Anka, Gigi Perreau, and, in his film debut, Jack Cassidy.
A teenager named Craig Fowler (Anka) is brought up by uncaring, dysfunctional parents (Ruth Roman and Alex Nicol)
Craig Fowler, develops a habit of peeping on his neighbors in a modern suburban area while donning a frightening mask, which often gets him into trouble.
Alland, who entered films as actor, is best remembered as reporter Jerry Thompson, who investigates the life of newspaper tycoon Charles Foster Kane in Orson Welles’s Citizen Kane (1941).
His role in the film is unusual because the camera never closes up on his face; for the most of his scenes, he shows his back to the camera, and whenever his face can be seen, it is always in long-shot and clouded in shadow.
In addition to his role as Thompson, Alland announces the “News on the March” newsreel segment, a spoof of the March of Time newsreels.
Alland directed only one film, Look in Any Window, but he wrote and produced many others.
