Rooney Mara Gets Wrapped Up With Mexican Chef in ‘La Cocina’ Poster First Look

In director Alonso Ruizpalacios’ English-language debut, the two-time Oscar nominee plays a waitress at high-stress Manhattan restaurant in relationship with back-room cook, played by Raúl Briones.

My Oscar Book:

Double Oscar-nominee Rooney Mara is all wrapped up with her co-star Raúl Briones in her new film, La Cocina.

In the movie, the English-language debut of Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios (A Cop MovieMuseo), Mara plays Julia, an American waitress working the high-stress lunch rush in the Manhattan restaurant The Grill.

Her relationship with undocumented Mexican grill cook Pedro (Briones) is about to be put to the test.

The official posters for the film show the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo actress back-to-back with Briones, bound together by unending ticker tape of lunch orders.

In the bottom corner, a loose lobster appears to be making a break for freedom.

Adapted from Arnold Wesker’s 1957 stage classic The KitchenLa Cocina will have its world premiere in competition at the Berlin Film Festival on Friday, Feb. 16.
