Directed by Ira Sachs, and written by Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias, Keep the Lights On is a pseudo-serious gay romantic melodrama, with some good moments, and many more bad ones.

The film is based on Sachs’ own relationship with Bill Clegg, a literary agent who published in 2010 A memoir about his struggles with addiction, titled Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man.
