Director Kathryn Bigelow’s (Oscar-winner for The Hurt Locker) has made a gripping action film about a real-life disaster aboard a Russian nuclear submarine.
Starring Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson, the film was inspired by a true story about an incident on a Soviet K-19 submarine in 1961 during the height of the Cold War.
When the nuclear reactor core becomes exposed during the K-19’s maiden voyage, the captain (Ford) bravely tries to avert both the destruction of his ship and the start of a nuclear war while defending his command against a near mutiny lead by his executive officer (Neeson).
