Israel Attacked: Auschwitz Museum Has Lost 6,100 Followers on Social Media

The Auschwitz Museum has lost 6,100 followers on social media since the war between Hamas and Israel broke out on October 7.

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the official account for the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp appealed for more engagement. The museum wrote: “Our account has lost over 6,100 followers in October. That’s why we continue to ask for your engagement.”

It continued: “You create this incredible community and help us all remember. Support @AuschwitzMuseum.” Despite the fall in numbers, however, the account still boasts an impressive following of more than 1.5 million users on the platform.
Hundreds of the followers spoke out in support, with one user declaring: “Keep up your great work, especially during this dark time.”

Another commented: “Already following and have retweeted. Each time you send an image and short story about a victim, I always pause to acknowledge what was stolen from them. #NeverAgain must mean never again.” And a third penned: “That’s awful to hear. It is more important than ever that we remember, and do not let history repeat itself.”

The museum’s account states its aims are to commemorate victims, educate about history and preserve the authentic site. Every day it posts tributes to those who perished in the camp on their corresponding birthdays.

It read: “After reviewing the available information, we want to let you know AdolfHitler8740 hasn’t broken our safety policies. We know this isn’t the answer you’re looking for. If this account breaks our policies in the future, we’ll notify you.”
