Innocents, The (2016): Anne Fontaine’s Tale of Pregnant Nuns in WWII Poland

Anne Fontaine’s new drama, The Innocents, is set in Warsaw, in December 1945.  A young French Red Cross doctor is summoned to a local convent where she discovers that several nuns are pregnant.

As such, they face a crisis of faith as their fiercely private world clashes with harsh realities.

Based on true events, this drama is from Anne Fontaine (Coco Before Chanel, Gemma Bovary), who depicts intimate worlds of women courageously crossing verboten boundaries.
