Well cast in a typical role, Belmondo plays Victor Vauthier, a lovable rogue and mythomaniac who refuses to give up his ways. When he leaves prison, it causes sadness to his guards, who had come to like him during his three-month imprisonment.
Upon release, he immediately pulls off a series of thefts and frauds.
Victor has to report to his parole officer, Marie-Charlotte Pontalec (Bujold), and quite predictably, the duo hit it off.
However, this bond does not prevent Victor, encouraged by his father figure uncle Camille, from trying to profit from his proximity to Marie-Charlotte in his scheme to steal a triptych by El Greco.
The painting is located in the Senlis Museum, where Marie-Charlotte’s father works as custodian, but outsmarting him, she figures out Victor’s plan.
Made at thepeak of Belmomdo’s internatiomnal stardom, Incorrigible was popular at the bx office, earning more than $19 million.
