Stagecoach: John Ford–John Wayne’s Classic Western Recycled–Radio Versions with John Wayne, Movie and TV Remakes

Like other successful movies, John Ford-John Wayne’s 1939 classic, Stagecoach, one of the few Westerns to have been nominated for the Best Picture Oscar,  was recycled several times in various media, radio, film, and TV.

Radio Versions

May 4, 1946, the radio episode of Academy Award Theater had Claire Trevor reprise her role alongside Randolph Scott.

December 7, 1946, the radio episode of Hollywood Star Time presented Stagecoach, adapted by Milton Geiger.

January 9, 1949 radio episode of Screen Directors Playhouse had John Wayne and Claire Trevor reprise their parts.

Movie Remake

In 1966, Stagecoach was remade with a cast that included Ann-Margret, Red Buttons, Mike Connors, Alex Cord, Bing Crosby, Robert Cummings, Van Heflin, Slim Pickens, and Stefanie Powers.

TV Remake

In 1986, a TV version featured Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings.
