Made in the tradition of such improv comedies as Christopher Guest’s “Best in Show” and Bob Reiner’s “This Is Spinal Tap, The Grand is set in the world of professional poker, following six players who reach the final table of the worlds second most famous high stakes tournament, the Grand Championship of Poker.
“The Grand” was improvised from a detailed treatment co-written by Zak Penn (“X-Men: The Last Stand”) and Matt Bierman.
A Tribeca Film Festival favorite, “The Grand” boasts a stellar international cast of some of todays top comedic actors: Woody Harrelson, David Cross, Dennis Farina, Cheryl Hines, Richard Kind and Chris Parnell. The film also stars award-winning comedian Ray Romano, the famed German film director Werner Herzog and sitcom vet Gabe Kaplan, better known for Welcome Back Kotter.
“The Grand” was produced by Zak Penn and Gary Marcus as well as Eleven Eleven Films Bobby Schwartz and Ross Dinerstein and IMGs Bret Saxon and Jeff Bowler. Matt Bierman is Executive Producer. It will be distributed theatrically by Anchor Bay Entertainment on March 21, 2008.
“The Grand” is rated R for Language and Drug Content.
