Agua Prieta and Douglas are two small towns planted on either side of the border between Mexico and the United States.
Offering spare, unsentimental look, Akerman alternately shoots these neighboring towns, so near and yet so far, separated by an insurmountable physical obstacle of barbed wire, gates and iron. Despite the danger, hundreds of Mexicans try to cross illegally every year.
Exploring the border as a symbol of North-South divide and the ravages of globalization, Akerman captures the desert, the horizon and the wide-open space.
