‘Beatles: Get Back,’ ‘Adele: One Night Only’ Win Big on Night One

The first of this year’s Emmy Awards trophies were presented on Saturday night at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.


The Beatles: Get Back and Adele: One Night Only won 5 five awards apiece during the first of the two-night presentation of the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The Beatles: Get Back delivered two Emmys to Peter Jackson, for directing and outstanding documentary.

“Shout out to the Beatles,” enthused Jackson, who is also a three-time Oscar winner for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and is now halfway to EGOT.

Adele: One Night Only’s five awards included outstanding pre-recorded variety special. With the win, Adele is now just a Tony away from achieving EGOT status.

RuPaul won Emmy for hosting his RuPaul’s Drag Race, extending his record as the most honored person of color in Emmy history, with a total of 12 wins and seven consecutive wins for outstanding host.

Chadwick Boseman received posthumous Emmy for his voice performance as T’Challa in Disney+ series What If…? 

Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, accepted, saying, “What a beautifully aligned moment it really is that one of the last things he would work on would not only be revisiting a character that was so important to him and his career and to the world, but also that it be an exploration of something new, diving into a new potential future.”

Former President Barack Obama won his first Emmy, for narrating the Netflix docuseries Our Great National Parks.

He is now halfway to EGOT, having previously won two Grammys.

Riot Games and Netflix’s animated series Arcane received four Emmys, including animated series and three juried awards. The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show was a big winner for three Emmys, while Netflix’s Love on the Spectrum also nabbed three.

Programs that won two Emmys include A Black Lady Sketch Show, Drag Race, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Luci and Desi and the Love Death + Robots episode “Jibaro” (including one juried award).

All 2022 Creative Arts Emmy attendees were required to show proof of a negative COVID test. The second Creative Arts Emmys ceremony will be held on Sunday.
