Dynamite (1928): DeMille’s Oscar Nominee, Starring Kay Johnson and Charles Bickford

In Cecil B. DeMille production of Dynamite, Kay Johnson marries a convict on death row (Charles Bickford), hoping that he’ll be executed so that she can get his money and marry another man (Conrad Nagel).

But he is reprieved, and goes to work as a miner, when he discovers the reasons why she married him. Afraid of losing his money, she follows him.

Melodrama kicks in, when all three are trapped in the mine during an explosion. Nagel then sacrifices himself for the sake of the other two.
