Don’t Tell a Soul: Writer-Director Alex McAuley’s Thriller

Don’t Tell a Soul

This indie thriller from writer-director Alex McAuley, set in an industrial town, centers on Joey (Jack Dylan Glazer), a teenager bullied by his older brother Matt (Fionn Whitehead), who claims to be the “man of the house” after the death of their alcoholic father.

Their mom (Mena Suvari) is ineffective and silent, sitting on the couch and whining for diet sodas.

Things change when the brothers rob an empty house, rumored to have cash. Unfortunately, they run into a security guard (Rainn Wilson), who falls into a well while chasing them in the woods. Joey worries that the wounded  guard might die, but Matt doesn’t care.

The movie is technically crafted, though still remains on the level of a formulaic thriller, slightly elevated by the acting of the two brothers.
